The government of Assam has written to the India’s Union Home Ministry seeking the deployment of army engineers to install barbed-wire fencing along the Indo-Bangla border.
They sought the deployment of Indian Army Corps of Engineers to build the fence along its border with Bangladesh.
According to sources at the State Home Ministry, the Assam Government wants to harness the dexterity of army engineers to construct the fence.

Assam shares 262-km border with Bangladesh. Out of which 208.85km has already been sealed.
The sources said out of the 71.41km unsealed portion of the border, 6.5km is land while the rest is water.

At least 3.5km of the land border is perched along Karimganj.
Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal came to power in 2016 the promise to seal the Indo-Bangla border of the state.
