US Congress Representative (Democrat) Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez has been a mainstay on the news circuit since the early days of her congress election campaign. Her activism and outspoken nature has turned her into the standard bearer for a new generation of politicians at the House of Representatives.
Going viral on the internet is nothing new for AOC, as the congresswoman is popularly known. However, her latest reason to go viral is due to footage of her speaking Bangla.
In a post that has been retweeted over 4,600 times, AOC proudly states that the district she was elected from speaks around 200 languages, and admits she can only speak four.
Just a bit! I made a campaign video in Bengali and it was really fun.

Over 200 languages are spoken in my district of NY-14. I can speak 4 (2 are rusty, but it’s like a bike).
Picking up a little Bengali is my next goal - we have an awesome community here ☺️ https://t.co/vANdEtcuLa
The original tweet from Zara Rahim was prompted by the Netflix biopic “Knocking Down The House” which covers AOC’s rise to the forefront of US politics.
Overjoyed to have worked with our Bangladeshi fam in NY-14 to do this:

The congresswoman later said her next target was to learn to speak Bangla, albeit jokingly.
During her campaign, she had also tweeted in Bangla, proposing Medicare and free college education.
