Left-wing Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador, commonly known by his initials, AMLO, was elected president of Mexico on Sunday, in a landslide victory that upended the nation’s political establishment and handed him a sweeping mandate to reshape the country. An official 'quick count' of results at midnight local time found that AMLO had won over half the votes. Lorenzo Cordova, director of the National Electoral Institute, said in a televised address late Sunday that Lopez Obrador’s vote count was projected to be between 53% and 53.8%. That compares to 22.1% to 22.8% for conservative Ricardo Anaya and 15.7% to 16.3% for Jose Antonio Meade of the ruling Institutional Revolution Party. Independent candidate Jaime 'El Bronco' Rodriguez was said to be getting between 5.3% and 5.5%
