Bangladesh and Russia’s friendly relation was built on strong historical basis, the consul said
Honorary Consul to Russia Architect Ashiq Imran has been awarded with prestigious medal by the Russian government.
He was awarded the medal on October 13, in recognition of his contribution to the development of bilateral relations between Russia and Bangladesh by setting up a memorial in the Laldighi area of Chittagong in honour of Yuri Redkin, a Soviet citizen killed in a mine clearing operation at the port of Chittagong in 1973, a press release said on Sunday.
Alexander Ignatov, ambassador of the Russian Federation to Bangladesh, handed over the medal to Ashiq.
The memorial would further strengthen the friendly relations between Bangladesh and Russia, the ambassador said..
He thanked Ashiq and AJM Nasir Uddin, former mayor of Chittagong City Corporation, for their overall cooperation.
The friendly relation between Bangladesh and Russia were established on a strong historical basis and the establishment of the Redkin Memorial proves once again that Bangladesh never forgets its true friends, Ashiq said.
