Shahzad out of World Cup due to injury

Afghanistan wicket-keeper Mohammad Shahzad has been ruled out of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 due to a knee injury.

The explosive opener carried the injury into the World Cup from the Warm-up match against Pakistan, when he picked up the injury.

His injury aggravated in Afghanistan’s first two matches in the World Cup against Australia and Sri Lanka respectively. On June 6, he was confirmed to be ruled out. 

Ikram Ali Khil has been named as a replacement. The left-handed wicket-keeper batsman made his debut for Afghanistan last March.

Afghanistan will play New Zealand in their 3rd match of the World Cup on Saturday, June 8.
