While meeting with President Xi Jinping in Beijing on Wednesday, US President Donald Trump showed his counterpart a video of his six-year-old granddaughter Arabella singing in Mandarin and reciting ancient Chinese poetry. Xi's wife Peng Liyuan was also present during this meeting, according to the official Xinhua news agency. In the video, Arabella – the daughter of first daughter Ivanka Trump and senior White House advisor Jared Kushner – can be seen wearing a traditional Chinese dress while addressing Xi and his wife as “Grandpa Xi” and "Grandma Peng.”

The video seems to have been filmed inside the White House. In the video, Arabella says in Mandarin: “Hello, Grandpa Xi. Hello, Grandma Peng,” as the American flag can be seen in the back. Arabella continues: “Hello everyone, let me sing a song.” Then she sing a traditional Chinese folk song about the country's lovely landscapes: “Our fields, beautiful fields, the jade green river flows past sweeping rice fields; the sweeping rice fields are like a swinging ocean.” “The quiet lake is studded with lotus flowers, golden carps are so big and fat; flocks of wild ducks are hiding in the reeds.” Arabella then begins her poetry performance – reciting ancient Chinese poems with alacrity. Next, Arabella reads lines from the Three Character Classic – a 13th century Chinese text – which, according to The Daily Mail, was once used in children's education up until the early 1800s.
