The Twitter feud began when Rowling tweeted about enjoying Morgan being told to “f*** off” by an Australian comedian, Jim Jefferies, when Morgan defended Trump's “Muslim Ban” during an HBO show Real Time.
Real Time host Bill Maher also commented on the matter and said if Trump was not the elected president “there wouldn’t be a Muslim ban”.
Morgan on Trump’s defence said that “there was no Muslim ban.” The panellist Jefferies immediately reacted to Morgan’s reply by saying “f*** off.” He added: “You're just like that [because] you won the apprentice and you have a famous friend, mate.”
Jefferies even compared Trump with Adolf Hitler.
In support of Jefferies's reaction, Rowling tweeted: “Yes, watching Piers Morgan being told to f*** off on live TV is exactly as satisfying as I'd always imagined.”
Morgan replied to her tweet by saying: “This is why I've never read a single word of Harry Potter.”
This exchange was followed by a series of tweets between Rowling and Morgan – attacking each other.
