Two arrested with Tk1 crore worth of electric cables in Narayanganj

The gang has been stealing government electric cables from all over the country and storing it in the BSCIC industrial area

Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) on Saturday arrested two men with Tk1 crore worth of government electric cables in Narayanganj.

The arrested Raju Ahmed, 42, and Ibne Sayeed, 25, were members of an organized syndicate that stole electric cables used in government projects.

A case was filed against the two with Sonargaon police station on Saturday.   

Narayanganj Sadar RAB 11 headquarters Additional Superintendent of Police (Operation), Md Jasim Uddin, confirmed the matter to Dhaka Tribune.

He said: “Acting on a tip-off, the elite force conducted a drive in the BSCIC industrial area and apprehended the two. However, the mastermind of the syndicate, Ishak Molla, managed to escape, detecting the team’s presence.”

In primary interrogation, the two said the gang had been stealing government electric cables from all over the country and storing them in the BSCIC area.

They would remove silver wiring from the cables, stripping off the protective rubber, and later selling it to various factories for a handsome sum of money.
