US Ambassador to Bangladesh Marcia Bernicat traveled to Bandarban from Rangamati on Tuesday evening for a two-day visit.
At a courtesy call on the Bandarban district administrator on Wednesday morning, where they were joined by the Bomang circle chief, Bandarban Zila Parishad chairman, and the local police superintendent, Bernicat said the US government is proud to be a part of several development projects under way in the Chittagong Hill Tracts.
Bernicat also said that the US would play a part in improving the health, nutrition, and livelihoods of the local people.
District Administrator Aslam Hossain said: “We asked the ambassador to continue and improve USAID’s projects in Bandarban as they are critical to the region. We also asked her to start some new initiatives, to which she gave positive responses.”
The ambassador is scheduled to visit some of the projects, which are funded by USAID.
