Members of Bangladesh Coast Guard have seized 4,000kg of jatka (hilsa fry less than 10 inches in length) from 10 traders in a drive at the Khan Jahan Ali Bridge area of Rupsa upazila, Khulna.
Acting on a tip-off, a team of the Coast Guard West Zone conducted the drive at around 10pm on Thursday, and seized the jatka worth a total Tk16 lakh, confirmed Zonal Commander Lt M Selim Biswas.
Later, a mobile court led by an executive magistrate fined the traders Tk5,000 each.
The seized jatka was distributed to various orphanages and madrasas.
