B Chowdhury, Dr Kamal call on Myanmar to stop Rohingya persecution

Update : 27 Sep 2017, 06:38 PM
Former president AQM Badruddoza Chowdhury and eminent lawyer Dr Kamal Hossain have called on the Myanmar government to stop the persecution of Rohingya people in the country’s Rakhine state. In a joint statement yesterday, the senior politicians also asked Myanmar to take actions against those responsible for the ongoing assault on the Rohingya and urged Bangladesh to sit with Myanmar for a prompt solution to the crisis. The Myanmar government must take back their citizens who have taken refuge in Bangladesh after fleeing violence in the state, Badruddoza and Kamal said, adding that it should follow the recommendations made by the Kofi Anan commission on dealing with the protracted crisis. On September 22, they announced to form a national committee and send representatives to India, China and Russia in a bid to mount diplomatic pressure on Myanmar to peacefully settle the crisis. Badruddoza and Kamal also said that they would make a platform to unite Bangladeshis over the Rohingya issue.
