Sheikh Jamal's title hopes all but gone
The slightest hopes holders Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club had of retaining the title of the Bangladesh Premier League were dented following their 1-0 loss against Muktijoddha SKC at Sheikh Fazlul Haque Moni Stadium in Gopalganj on Friday. Saikat netted the all-important goal for the All Reds in the 25th minute which was enough to seal their seventh league victory this season. They also made up for their 3-2 defeat against the same opponents in the first phase. Sheikh Jamal are now 10 points behind table-toppers Abahani Limited with only four games remaining in the top-flight. The Dhanmondi outfit must win their remaining four matches and hope other results go their way if they are to pip the Sky Blues to the title. The reigning champions remained third with 29 points from 18 matches while Muktijoddha moved up a place up to fourth with three points less in the same number of outings. Sheikh Jamal's defeat also ensured that the top-tier crown will now be fought between Abahani and Chittagong Abahani, who will face Arambagh KS on Saturday at the same venue at 3pm.
