Tagaytay Highlands:A great place to unwind

I finally got to see a little more nature and less city life on this current trip to Manila. I’m usually stuck running errands for the family and it’s hard to visit places due to time restraints.

The drive up to Tagaytay highlands is simply put: breath-taking. The place is surrounded by insurmountable beauty and I was in complete awe of the view of Taal Lake and Volcano. From the sweeping vista of Taal Lake and Volcano that greets you upon entering this sprawling complex. Being nice and close to Manila ensures its popularity on weekends and public holidays too,

Tagaytay City, at elevation 2,500 above sea level, a component city in the province of Cavite in the Philippines, only 56 kilometers south of Manila, it is situated on the scenic Tagaytay Ridge that has a spectacular view of a volcano named Taal that means - the city sits on top of a ridge with spectacular views, to the north you can see Manila Bay, to the east you have Laguna de Bay, the south you have Taal Lake and Taal Volcano and to the west is the South China Sea.

Tagaytay is famous not only for the awesome view of Taal's lake-within-a-volcano-within-a-lake-within-a-volcano but also for fruits, vegetables, beef, native coffee and flowers as well. Tagaytay is a famous get-away for families, couples and tourists for the spectacular views, picnic spots, restaurants, resort and recreational facilities.

You know you’re at the Highlands when the cool breeze suddenly embraces you to warm your heart and soothe your weary spirit. You know you’re at the Highlands when you see the hazy fringes of the amazing, mesmerising volcano sitting on a lake, scenery that could have leaped out of a postcard or a canvas.

Dubbed as the City of Character where food and nature are at their best, Tagaytay has long dominated the preference for a weekend getaway. For many years, this city has served as the most convenient escape for people seeking to unwind from the stress of corporate life. Location in mind, it overshadows any city near Metro Manila with its cool, breezy weather that’s complemented by a picturesque landscape.

What makes Tagaytay Highlands great

First, the cool 19-degree weather that provides a welcome respite to pollution-weary city dwellers. Also, the proximity to Manila that makes Tagaytay Highlands a foremost destination for families who want to get away from the hustle and bustle of the metropolis.

Tagaytay Highlands provides its members with first-class homes. In the Highlands alone, there are five residential developments each with their own theme: The Spanish-Mediterranean-style homes at The Villas, the alpine-village themed Pinecrest Village with Swiss chalet- style condominium units built on the ridge, with unique elevators that run diagonally.

Another reason that makes Tagaytay Highlands close to paradise is the food! With over 25 food and beverage outlets to choose from, you can take a gastronomic trip around the world! Some of the best-sellers are succulent steak at the Highlander Steakhouse, authentic Chinese cuisine (the chef is from Hong Kong) at the China Palace, pizza, pasta and dessert at Toscana.

Tagaytay Highlands boast a legion of “firsts” in the country: the first cable cars, the first 48-seater Swiss funicular train, the first 45-hole golfing resort in the whole of Tagaytay City, and the first to have The Peak Bar with a 360-degree view of two lakes, Taal volcano, five mountains, and four cities.

Apart from its natural beauty, Tagaytay is also historic. You will find several historic markers. Having the Tagaytay Ridge Landing first installed in 1951, this was the site of the first parachute landing in the Philippines executed by the 511th Parachute Infantry Regiment, 11th Airborne Division, 8th Army, USA that happened on February 3, 1945.

During World War II, Filipino soldiers found refuge in its vast forest and ridges. It was used as a landing site and sanctuary for paratroopers on their way to liberate Manila. Tagaytay is not just a nature's wonder; it is also rich in political history.

The Highlands is a fusion of the universal appeal of nature and the comfort of modern living making it the perfect destination for urbanites who want to get away from the city without sacrificing the ease of having everything with just one phone call or at the push of a button.
