Ragib Ali was arrested in Assam on Wednesday night and was handed over to Bangladesh authorities around 2:44pm on Thursday through Shutarkandi border, Beanibazar OC Chondon Kumar Chakrabarty confirmed to the Dhaka Tribune.
The South East Bank vice-chairman had fled to India through Jockyganj on Aug 10, hours after a court ordered his arrest for the attempted misappropriation of a tea garden.
Ragib is also the former trustee board chairman of North-South University, and Leading University, and founded Ragib-Rabeya Medical College in Jalalabad in Sylhet. He is involved with many other organisations including a local newspaper 'Dainik Sylheter Dak'.
Ragib Ali's daughter Rojina Kadir and her husband Abdul Kadir are also accused in the case and remain at large.
Three others named in the case are Abdul Hye, Pankaj Kumar Gupta and Dewan Mostaq Majid - another of Ragib's relatives.
Hye had escaped to India with Ragib and was arrested at Jockyganj checkpost on November 12, while Pankaj is on bail and Majid is in jail waiting trial.
