Miraz delighted after record-filled day
Bangladesh all-rounder Mehedi Hasan Miraz expressed delight after bagging his second five-wicket haul in a row in the ongoing second Test, and gave credit to the senior players for providing him valuable advice. “I never think about five or six wickets. I always try to perform for the team. Actually it was a little bit of a different challenge compared to the first Test. But the senior players in my team - they helped me a lot. Mushfiqur [Rahim] bhai, Shakib [al Hasan] bhai, Tamim [Iqbal] bhai and [Mahmudullah] Riyad bhai always inspired me and told me that if I want to get wickets then I have to bowl really well and work hard," Miraz told the media after the day's play on Saturday. "If I can bowl in good areas then it will be difficult to play even for a good batsman,” he said. Miraz said Bangladesh will try to score as many runs as possible in order to set a big target for England. But he also admitted that whatever the target might be, the Tigers will fight till the end to defend it. In the first innings we had a good partnership and then there was a collapse. I hope this time everyone will take up the responsibility. No matter what target we set, we will fight because we know our strengths well. Our spinners are doing well - Shakib bhai and Taijul [Islam] bhai - all are bowling very well at the moment. We will try to score as many runs as possible,” he said. Miraz defended Mahmudullah, who played a rash shot to get out in the last ball of the day, terming the Mymensingh cricketer a class batsman. Miraz believes the dismissal was unfortunate but it is very much part of the game. Miraz said Bangladesh will try to score as many runs as possible in order to set a big target for England. Only one mistake can cost a batsman his wicket while bowlers get many chances. It is unfortunate he got out that way. No one likes to get out willingly. But it’s just part of the game. The remaining batsmen will try to bat well [Sunday],” he said. The youngster opened the bowling for the Tigers in the ongoing series and informed that he will be comfortable to do so again if given the new ball. “I am used to bowling with both the old and the new ball. But I think the new ball suits me more. When the ball gets old, then it becomes soft. But I believe I have the confidence to bowl with the new ball as well,” he said. Miraz's batting has not been upto the mark in the England Tests, bearing in mind that he is considered one of the best batsmen in the Under-19 arena. The right-handed batsman though said he is not concerned with his low run of scores and that he will try his best the next time he comes out to bat. “Actually international level is much more difficult than U-19 level. England are a very competitive side. I tried to score in my first three innings but unfortunately failed to do so. I will work hard on my batting. I hope I can contribute with the bat for my team as well,” he said.
