Family sources said Dutta breathed his last at about 6am at BIRDEM hospital soon after he was taken there with severe chest pain from his Basabo residence.
He left behind wife, one son, one daughter and host of relatives, colleagues and well-wishers to mourn his death.
Dutta was senior reporter of Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha (BSS. He retired from the BSS two months back. Earlier, he worked with different dailies, including the Daily Samokal and Daily Khabor.
His body was taken to his Basabo residence in the morning and from there it will be taken to Dhaka Reporters Unity (DRU) at 10:30 am to help Dutta's journalist colleagues to have the last glimpse of him and for paying respect to the late newsman.
His body will be taken then to Jatiya Press Club (JPC) at 11am for paying respect to the freedom fighter.
The cremation of Timir Lal Dutta will be held at his hometown Barisal, the sources added.
