Update : 10 Aug 2016, 12:04 AM
The regulator also instructed Airtel to provide its employees with American Express Bank or Grameenphone standard VRS as they are not bound to join Robi Axiata Limited as per their job contract. BTRC will place a “No Objection Certificate (NOC)” regarding Robi and Airtel merger proposal before the High Court today. The commission also set Tk100 crore as merger fee and Tk507 spectrum adjustment prices which will be payable after the court’s approval and before the final paper work from the Office of the Registrar of Joint Stock Companies and Firms, said the NOC. Robi and Airtel signed a merger agreement on January 28, this year. As per the deal, the joint venture will be operated under the brand name of “Robi”. The regulator also imposed a condition that Robi won’t be able sack any Airtel employee for any reason within three years after the merger. According to Grameenphone’s VRS program, employees under three categories, based on the tenure of service, receive the scheme benefit. In June, Grameenphone announced a voluntary retirement scheme for its employees where about 350 accepted the programme and quit their jobs. Grameenphone provided its VRS employees with 24-70 basic salaries evaluating their services. At present Airtel has around 450 employees. According Robi-Airtel merger proposal, the merged company Robi will have to abide by 15 conditions.
