Focus on ourselves only, says Hathurusingha

Tigers head coach Chandika Hathurusingha, who returned to Dhaka on Monday, said the upcoming England tour will solely depend on the visitors and that all the Bangladesh Cricket Board can do is give assurance regarding the security situation.

“They (England) have to decide, what I have heard is that their security people are coming here. Then they will take a decision. But again, what we can focus on is what we can do here,” Hathurusingha told the media at Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium on Tuesday.

“The situation is not ideal but we cannot do anything about it. That is what I told the boys as well. What we can do is try to be prepared with our ability and take the time that we have in our hands as an advantage and not as a disadvantage. It is not ideal but that is the situation we are in,” he said.

Hathurusingha informed that despite the foreign members of the team management reaching Dhaka late, he is happy that the camp started as planned. For the past 10 days, the Tigers underwent fitness camp and started skill development on Tuesday.

The camp will also have practice matches and plans to make the players participate in a few games of the franchise-based Bangladesh Cricket League before England's arrival. The BCL is scheduled to start on September 20.

“We actually started as we planned our fitness camp on the day that we planned anyway. Of course we took some time to come but we were lucky that we had good people around us to start the camp whom we trust. So we are into our plan. We are starting the skills. We already started fielding, just doing some throwing work load, getting some miles into our shoulders. And then getting into pace next week. On the 20th (of this month), we start batting and bowling then we play a few matches before Eid. We'll probably play a few BCL matches before England arrive,” informed the former Sri Lanka cricketer.

“It is not ideal, and easy as well, but what can you do if you don’t have matches? We are trying to practise according to our plans. We take it as a positive because we have time in our hand. We can prepare very well, but then again it is not like playing matches. Ideally the players like to play games and keep their confidence going. When you start a new series, it’s a little bit tensed at the start unless you get into the series. That’s the disadvantage that we might have because we are playing after a long time but we can’t control about this now,” he added.
