Firoz criticises Muhith, Mannan

Update : 12 Jun 2016, 04:01 PM
Jatiya Party lawmaker Kazi Firoz Rashid on Sunday expressed grievances over the absence of Finance Minister Abul Maal Abdul Muhith and State Minister M A Mannan in the parliament. Addressing the deputy speaker, the lawmaker said, “What is point of saying things? The finance minister and the state minister are absent in the parliament. Who will respond to our statements?” The Jatiya Party lawmaker said: “Finance minister said massive corruption has taken place in the financial sector. But he did not say anything about the looters. What actions have been taken in the reserve heist case? Mr Farashuddin said six officials were involved. Mr Atiur Rahman did only public relations. In the last seven years Tk30,000 crore were looted but not a single person has been tried.” Firoz also said Hallmark is yet to return a single penny and none was arrested in connection with Basic Bank, Bismillah group and other scams. “The existence of state banks are at stake. All state banks should be given to the private sector.” Criticising the NBR, Firoz said, “Vat money was looted. People give money to customs officials instead of giving vat. Government does not get that money. Customs officials get the amount. People bribe only to save themselves from harassment.”
