The sound of the screen siren

Update : 27 Mar 2016, 07:35 PM

The recently demised diva of Dhallywood was never confined to her acting skills. Diti’s gifted voice also contributed to her illustrious career.

From an early childhood, she dreamt of becoming a singer and practised singing more intently than anything else. Her renditions of popular songs in various cultural programs in her home town, Sonargaon of Narayanganj, still echo in their melodious tone.

After she started acting on big screen, the star diverted her focus from singing to acting. However, she would often lend her voice to few of the songs in her films and TV dramas. It was her close ones who requested for the release of an album consisting of her songs.

Diti’s first solo album was Tomar O Chokhe, a collection of modern Bangla songs, which came out nearly two decades ago under the label of Anupam Recording Media.

Lately in 2011, her second solo album Firey Jeno Asi got released under the label of Laser Vision, which garnered much appreciation. In the album, Shahidullah Farayazi and Milon Khan penned lyrics while Pallab Sanyal and Azd Mintu composed the songs. Some of the hit tracks from the album are “Maago tumi bine dekha holo na,” “Bhalobasay mon pore,” “Rangila mon,” “Jhilmil kore lokkho tara” and “Jodi naiba holo dekha.” Ironically, the title of her last album, Firey Jeno Asi, means “I wish to come back.”
