At least eight people, including a Dhaka Wasa official, have fallen victim to several organised gangs known as “Ogyan Party” in the capital on Sunday and lost everything they had with them.
The victims are now fighting for their lives in Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH).
Sources said the gangs, which dope their targets before robbing them of money and belongings, are active at different parts of the capital. Impressionable commuters are their main targets.
They prey on some targeted commuters and leave them unconscious anywhere.
The hospital sources said of the Sunday's victims, Shafiqul Islam, 35, a deputy engineer of Dhaka Wasa, was found in an unconscious state in front of Chhabir Hat opposite the art faculty of Dhaka University around 7:15pm.
Later, Shahbagh police station SI Md Mukul admitted him to the DMCH.
Like Safiqul, two officials of IFIC Bank--Masud Rana and Ekram Hossain--were rescued in an unconscious state from Kakrail around 2:30pm while two people named Ilias and Rubel were found in Jatrabari around 3:30pm.
Akmot Ali, 65, fell victim while he was traveling to Mirpur from Rampura and fish trader Mohsin Mollik, 40, was found in an unconscious state in the capital's Karwan Bazar around 6pm.
Besides, one Hadiul Islam, 45, has been admitted to the DMCH around 2:45pm by the police.
The identities of the all victims were confirmed through their national identity cards.
