A prisoner has died after he was taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital from Dhaka Central Jail.

Jail guard Jahid took Abdul Alim Rana, 32, son of Ismail Akond, to the hospital around 12:30pm Saturday where the on-duty doctor declared him dead.

DMCH police outpost Inspector Mozammel Haque confirmed the Dhaka Tribune about the death.

Ismail Akond, father of the deceased prisoner, alleged that Rana got a call from his friend Mozammel asking him to meet near Geneva Camp in Mohammadpur on February 19.

"Mozammel was kept captive by drug trader Pochish group that gave him a condition to produce Rana for his release. When Rana reached the spot, Pochish group men beaten him mercilessly and handed him over to Mohammadpur police station putting arms in his possession," Ismail Akond went on.

Later, police produced Rana in court showing him arrested in arms case and the court then sent him to jail.
