The biometric fingerprints are not being preserved in the re-registration process of mobile operator’s SIM card, State Minister for Post and Telecommunications Taran Halim has said.

Replying to a query in the parliament on Tuesday, Tarana said: “Finger print is being added to the registration process to verify NID [National Identity Card] and nothing will be preserved.”

Tarana Halim said NID is essential for the registration.

If someone has no NID, he/she should admit particular reason behind it and must have NID within six months, she continued.

However, people can register SIM using passport, birth certificate or driving license, she said.

The junior minister said all the citizens have to register their SIM/RIM in biometric system by April 30 and the unregistered SIM/RIM will be held up after the deadline.
