Three more cases were filed against The Daily Star Editor and Publisher Mahfuz Anam yesterday on defamation and sedition charges for publishing “confusing” and “defamatory” reports on Awami League President Sheikh Hasina during the military-backed caretaker tenure.
The cases were filed by leaders of the ruling Awami League and its affiliate bodies in Narail, Comilla and Magura. Earlier at least 66 cases were filed against him over the same charges.
According to the plaintiffs, he published reports against Hasina based on information provided by DGFI without any scrutiny in 2007. He confessed to running such stories in a talk-show earlier this month.
