The Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (Ecnec) has approved the construction of 12 barracks in different units of Bangladesh Police.
The approval comes in a meeting of the Ecnec held at the NEC conference room with Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in the chair on Tuesday afternoon.
The 12 barracks will be constructed at the cost of Tk219.17 crore.
The Ecnec on Tuesday approved a total of nine developments projects worth over Tk4,961 crore.
Of the approved nine projects cost, Tk4,945.9 crore will come from the national exchequer and Tk16.33 crore from the project related public agencies’ own fund, said Planning Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal after the meeting.
About 30,000 policemen have been recruited over the last five years and 50,000 more will be recruited in next few years in line with the growing demand for police service.
Currently, around 15,000 police members are getting 5,888 residential facilities in the proposed 12 barracks and 6,000 more residential facilities have been proposed to construct at the same barracks.
