BNP informs EC about party charter change

Update : 16 Feb 2016, 01:28 PM

The BNP has sent a letter to the Election Commission informing that one article of the party charter has been changed to introduce direct election for the party’s senior vice chairman post.

Party chairperson Khaleda Zia’s elder son Tarique Rahman, who is now staying in London on several charges, has been enjoying the post since the last council held in 2009.

The senior vice chairman post was created in 2009 and Tarique was appointed that time and after the amendment of the party charter, election will be held for that post.

Party’s joint secretary general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi sent a letter to the Election Commission on Tuesday informing this change.

A delegation led by Rizvi submitted the letter to the election commission secretary Sirajul Islam.

Rizvi said: “BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia has brought an amendment to the party charter for holding election for the post of party’s senior vice chairman. We have informed the matter to EC in written.”

Rizvi also told journalists that party’s acting secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir will give the certified paper for the BNP-backed Union Parishad chairman candidates.

“Party chairperson will finalise the BNP-backed Union Parishad chairman candidates but party’s acting secretary general will give the certified letter. We will send the letter in this regard before February 18,” he said.

On the other hand, Jatiya Party informed the EC that party’s secretary general ABM Ruhul Amin Hawlader will give the certified paper for the party backed Union Parishad chairman candidates.

A delegation of Jatiya Party submitted a letter to the EC on the day with three sample signature of Hawlader.
