Mohiuddin: Khaleda should be driven out of country

Update : 05 Jan 2016, 07:38 PM

Chittagong city unit Awami League President and former mayor of Chittagong City Corporation ABM Mohiuddin Chowdhury yesterday said Chairperson of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) Khaleda Zia should be driven out of the country as she made derogatory remarks over the Liberation War martyrs.

He made the remark while addressing a rally on the premises of Chittagong Central Shaheed Minar.

Chittagong city Awami Legue organised the rally titled “Victory Day for Democracy” to celebrate the second anniversary of January 5, 2014 general elections.

Mohiuddin Chowdhury said, “When we fought for the country’s freedom, Khaleda Zia was staying with Pakistani military. How can she understand the meaning of Liberation War? Khaleda should be driven out of the country for her derogatory comment.”

“It was 5 January, 2014 when the victory of the democracy was achieved. However, Khaleda did not accept that and began killing innocent people,” said Mohiuddin, adding that Khaleda Zia was financing the militants to destabilise the country.

AJM Nasir Uddin said martial law would have been prevailed in the country if the election had not been held on January 5, 2014.

He called upon BNP to shun the path of violence and come to the path of democracy by taking part in the next general elections and cutting off all political ties with Jamaat-e-Islami.
