Another landless man, who was critically injured in an attack by local Awami League leader’s men over land grab at Zibonnagar upazila in the district on Monday, died at Jessore Sadar Hospital yesterday.
The deceased was Shahbuddin, 60, son of late Kader Sheikh at Gangadaspur village in the upazila.
According to local people and police sources, a group of miscreants led by Shimanto union Awami League president Malek Molla attacked 27 houses of landless people in the area. They exploded 5 bombs leaving 15 people injured including Shahbuddin and Mohammad Ali.
The injured were admitted to Zibonnagar Health Complex where Mohammad Ali died at night.
Later, Shahbuddin and other injured were sent to Jessore Hospital in critical condition where Shahbuddin died yesterday night.
The police arrested Rezaul, his wife Anwara Khatun and Minu Khatun, wife of Badal of the village in connection with the killing. The arrested were landless people.
When contacted, Malek denied the allegation.
Humaun Kabir, officer-in-charge of Zibonnagar police station, said the incident might have taken place centering land dispute.
Steps would be taken after investigation the matter, he said.
It can be mentioned that the same group of Awami League grabbed 130 bighas land of 100 families 3 years back in the area.
They also forced the people to leave their houses and land.
Later, the helpless people went to local lawmaker Solaiman Haque Joarder Selun, also a parliament Whip, and begged shelter to him. Solaiman rehabilitated the people in their own land three months back.
