Police have traced the grave of a missing Japanese citizen at a graveyard in the capital's Uttara.

Assistant Commissioner of Detective Branch of Police Iftekharul Islam confirmed the matter to the Dhaka Tribune on Tuesday.

The deceased is Hiroye Miyata, 61.

A police official seeking anonymity told the Dhaka Tribune around 5:15pm Tuesday that five people had been arrested for their suspected involvement with the missing incident.

They were produced before a Dhaka court with a 10-day remand plea in the afternoon. The court granted four days remand to each arrestees.

Earlier in the day, Iftekharul Islam said that a press conference would be held regarding the matter around 11am.

However, DMP Deputy Commissioner Montasirul Islam later told the Dhaka Tribune that the press conference had been cancelled due to unavoidable circumstances.

On November 19, an official of Japanese Embassy in Dhaka filed a general diary with Uttara police station over the disappearance of Hiroye Miyata.

According to the GD, her mobile phone number was found switched off since October 26. Later, a case was filed in this connection on Sunday.
