The most acknowledgeable feature of North South University Social Services Club is the cooperative approach of the university's students in bringing change in the nation. Nevertheless, to fuel up the inherent motivation of the young generation, “Socio Camp: A social awareness” has taken this initiative. Socio Camp is a competition platform where solutions to various social issues are generated through innovative ideas in order to raise awareness.
This year, Socio Camp is going to celebrate their success. Socio Camp 2015 has a special motto: to be the reason of change and aid the underprivileged with fresh and efficient alternatives. This year it will be called “Super Fresh Drinking Water presents Sociocamp” and will be associated with Social Islami Bank Ltd.
Besides encouraging the youth to get involved in raising awareness on social issues, it also aspires to develop their personal skills. This competition provides a platform that supports students to design effective campaigns on awareness on various human rights and environmental issues. The participants are free to work on any topic; the third gender, pollution, hazards of smoking, abuse of drugs, road accidents, domestic violence, HIV/AIDS, poverty, nutrition, sanitation, under-age marriages, etc.
Shimsad Narmeen, sub-executive member said: “We are looking for effective ideas that are also cost efficient. The teams are given complete independence on how they want to design their campaigns.”
Significantly, the ideas each year are submitted to the title sponsor companies who take the initiative to incorporate it in their company’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) activities. The ideas will also be spread and promoted through social media so that it reaches the mass.
Each round is preceded by a workshop to brief the contestants on their tasks. However, the groups will only be judged on the basis of their work and how they execute the ideas. There will be three rounds, each of which consists of a judge panel of renowned and eminent media personalities and ambassadors in the related fields from all over Bangladesh.
This year, the judges selected in the first round are respectable faculty members of North South University along with the executive body of the Social Services Club. The final round is usually graced by celebrities and various top management holders at notable companies. In previous years the grand finale has had the likes of Amitabh Reza, Gausul Alam Shaon, and Mahi B Chowdhury. Much like last year, there will be notable faces, like Sulaiman Shukhon, Korvi Rakshand, and many others. The top three teams are recipients of prizes and crests.
As mentioned above, this competition is for university students of Bangladesh. Students from both public and private universities can make groups of three to four members only. Online registration starts from from November 1-5. Students of North South University along with several other universities from inside and out of Dhaka will also be able to register at the registration booths in their respective universities.
For more than 21 years, North South University Social Services Club has been dedicating to serve the nation in various ways, from providing winter clothes, Drive or Sponsoring an Eid etc. Their moto is to bring a smile on the faces of unprivileged people in the society.
