Common against John Wick

Update : 28 Oct 2015, 06:11 PM

It’s always nice to get confirmation for the franchises you love. The filmmakers of the ridiculously popular, and box office hit, John Wick have confirmed a new villain in the sequel. John Wick 2 (as it’s being called for now) have swooped up rapper turned actor Common. The reputable rapper is no stranger to the big screen, as his menacing presence has been seen in action/thriller movies like Run All Night, Wanted and Smokin’ Aces. In fact, he put on one heck of a mean face for a criminal in the comedy Date Night. He’s got a few notable, serious roles down too in American Gangster and Selma.

Looks like we’ll be treated to a bigger and better John Wick in the sequel, while Common terrorises as one of the main antagonists. Apart from the obvious return of Keanu Reeves, Ian McShane will also be returning to the Lionsgate franchise. After the initial success of the first film, it seems to be the next stage of the ‘revenge action’ genre. We’ve seen Liam Neeson’s successful run with the Taken franchise, but Keanu’s take on the revenge flick seems to be even wilder. We have a good feeling we’ll see plenty of more sequels in the making, if not just one more.

Audiences will be able to see more of Common in the upcoming adaptation of DC Comics’ Suicide Squad by Warner Bros, starring Will Smith and Jared Leto. He has recently wrapped up his work on Barbershop 3 and is currently preparing for The Wiz Live!, which is the TV production of the 1975 musical The Wiz.

All we know for now is that Common will be playing as a head of security for a female crime lord and will be going head-to-head against Reeves. Chad Stahelski is taking the director seat, and will start shooting this week.
