Weaving another

A group of professional wedding photographers from Bangladesh went to Malaysia recently to attend WPPA (Wedding and Portrait Photographers of Asia). It was a three-day-long program where there was a print photography competition, a seminar and a master class by internationally acclaimed wedding photographer LitoSy, Double Master (WPPI).

On the first day, more than 200 photographers from Malaysia, China, Philippines, Singapore, India and Bangladesh participated in the WPPA Print Competition 2015. Four photographers from Bangladesh, including Prito Reza, Jobayer Hossain Shuvo, Nafis Fuad Shuvo and Mazharul Islam Rafi submitted their photos. Under the wedding segment, there were seven categories. After the preliminary selection, 22 of Jobayer Shuvo’s photos, six from Mazharul Islam Rafi and five photos from Nafis Fuad Shuvo were selected for the final round. The rules was to select 30 photos in each category for the final round. The final round was judged by LitoSy, ZungHeng, Mathew Tan and two other international wedding photographers. On the final selection, Jobayer won 3 international awards in traditional ceremony: second prizes in group and bridal categories and third prize in wedding journalism. He is the first Bangladeshi to ever achieve this.

On the second day, photographers around the world joined a conference. Jobayer spoke about South-Asian wedding traditions, business strategies, branding and marketing in the wedding photography business. His achievements as a businessman was proof of his experience.

When he was asked about his achievements, he replied, “When, for the first time, my name was announced, I was merely joyous. But when the second calling came, I was beyond my imagination. Then I as called on stage to get the certificate for the third time, and it seemed to me as a dream I've been watching for years. It was really great to represent my country on an international stage. My photos have been appreciated by world class photographers and I have learned a lot from the grand masters from the workshop, which will help me in the improve for the future.” Jobayer Hossain Shuvo is a wedding photographer and entrepreneur from Bangladesh. He has been in the field for 5 years and is an engineer. Self-taught in photography, he is inspired by busting life around him. As a mechanical engineer by education and a wedding photographer by passion and profession, his success has been able to enthuse more engineers and doctors to choose photography as a profession as well. Shuvo founded the company Dream Weaver Wedding Photography and Cinematography. The company has been assigned in more than 3200 wedding assignments within three years. He started the company when he was a graduate student at Islamic University of Technology (IUT) with three of his junior schoolmates. Later, they have been able to establish a new trend to take photography as a profession among the youngsters of Bangladesh. And now has a big team of 45 young educated and professional wedding photographers. “I am a dreamer.
