A fire that broke out at 65 megawatt Shikalbaha Thermal Power Plant at Patiya upazila in Chittagong has been brought under control, said fire service and power station sources.
Chittagong Fire Service and Civil Defense Headquarters’ Deputy Assistant Director (DAD) Abdul Malek (Zone-1) told the Dhaka Tribune that the firefighters doused the fire at 6pm on Sunday.

However, no causality was reported in this connection while the power supply at the portion of Paitya upazila caused disruption following the incident, said the official.
The fire might have ignited from an electric short circuit at one transformer out of two transformers of the power plant at around 3:30pm, said Malek.
On information, fire fighters of three units from Patiya, Lama Bazar and Agrabad stations rushed to the spot and doused the blaze after two and half hours hectic efforts, added the DAD.
The fire damaged the transformer while the power supply was cut off soon after the incident to avert any kind of bad situation, said power plant manager Bhuban Bijoy Dutta.
The official said the power supply has been disrupting at a portion of Patiya upazila while the other power supply line is normal.
