Awami League General Secretary Syed Ashraful Islam has ruled out any possibility of holding mid-term national election in the country before 2019.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will arrange the national polls in due time, he said.
Ashraf, also the Public Administration minister, made the statement after a discussion meeting at Jahangirnagar University (JU) on Tuesday to mark the 40th death anniversary of Bangabandhu Sheikh Muzibur Rahman.
The programme was held at the seminar room of Zahir Raihan auditorium in the university around 11am with JU Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Farzana Islam in the chair.
While asking about the mid-term polls, he said “there is no possibility of holding mid-term polls in the country because the country is running well under the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and she will declare the election in right time.”
Replying to another question, Ashraf said: “There is no word about the caretaker government in the constitution of Bangladesh so that there is no way to go back to caretaker government system.”
