Ansar Al Islam has claimed responsibility for the murder of secular blogger Niladri Chatterjee.
The organisation also known as al-Qaeda in the Indian Subcontinent (AQIS) in an email to the media in the evening hailed the murder that took place around 1:30pm in Khilgaon and threatened to destroy the other blasphemers.
The email was sent from [email protected].
Police suspect that this organisation is none other than recently banned militant group Ansarullah Bangla Team.
Previously Ansar Al Islam through its Twitter account had claimed responsibilities for the murder of several other secularist activists killed since 2013.
AQIS in May hailed the killing of Ahmed Rajeeb Haider, Ashraful Alam, Prof AKM Shafiul Islam, Avijit Roy, Oyasiqur Rahman Babu and Ananta Bijoy Das.
Known as Niloy Neel, Niladri on August 3 in a Facebook post said that his name had been mentioned as anti-Islam in a radical Islamist blog written by Hizb ut-Tahrir leader Shafiur Rahman Farabi.
Farabi is now in jail for instigating the murder of secularist activists, especially Mukto-Mona founder Avijit.
The email, sent by Mufti Abdullah Ashraf, spokesperson of Ansar Al Islam, says: “Alhamdulillah! Mujahidin of Ansar Al Islam (AQIS, Bangladesh Branch) carried out an operation to slaughter an enemy of Allah (swt) and His Messenger (peace & blessings be upon him), whose name is Niloy Chowdhury Neel.
“By the permission of Allah (swt) this operation took place today (7th August, 2015) at 1:45pm at Khilgaon! Alhamdulillah.
“We, al-Qaeda in the Indian Subcontinent, claim responsibility for this operation as vengeance for the honour of the messenger of Allah (pbuh).
“And, we declare war against these worst enemies of Allah (swt) and His Messenger (pbuh). We will all our effort to destroy them along with their alies [sic] insha'Allah.
“Alhamdulillah! This operation has healed the hearts of Muslims and the righteous scholars of this land. And the hearts of hypocrites and disbelievers are burning with rage.
“O Muslim Ummah! We assure you that as long as blood flows in the veins of your sons, these kinds of enemies of Allah (swt) and His Messenger (pbuh) will be attacked by us insha'Allah!
“O! Enemies of Allah (swt) and His Messenger (pbuh), Wait for us! For we are coming towards you. If your 'Freedom of Speech' maintains no limits, then widen your chests for 'Freedom of our Machetes.'
“WE DID NOT FORGET! AND WE WILL NOT FORGET OTHERS INSHA'ALLAH!”
