The members of Rapid Action Battalion have detained five members of a human trafficking gang from the capital's Motijheel area.

The detainees are-- ringleader of human trafficking gang Kohinur Alam, 30, owners of three private recruiting agencies Mohammad Hasan, 50, Jahidul Islam, 33, Rashedul Hasan, 55 and Rashedul's Manager Jasim Uddin, 45.

RAB 3 Deputy Director Major Mohiuddin told the Dhaka Tribune: “Acting on a complaint made by two victims, the RAB members detained Kohinur from Motijheel area. Later, they picked up four other persons from the same area in between 2pm-6pm Tuesday.

“The gang sent the victims to Syria, promising them good jobs in Lebanon. They first took the victims to Dubai legally. Later, all the victims were sent to Syria illegally. Moreover, the traffickers did not pay promised salaries.”

“We had received a similar complaint against the gang earlier but we could not take any step as we did not have specific information regarding the crime. This time we took an immediate action as the victims provided a good amount of evidence,” added the RAB official.

The detainees would be handed over to the police in a short time, said the official.
