A Dhaka court has fixed August 13 for hearing charge framing against 13 accused in two cases filed over Tazreen fire incident.
Judge SM Quddus Zaman of Dhaka District and Sessions Judge's Court Wednesday fixed the date after hearing time petitions by the defence counsels.
In the petition, the defence counsels mentioned they would need more time as their senior counsel TM Akbar was busy with the August 21 grenade attack cases.
The court fixed the date in August after Public Prosecutor Khandaker Abdul Mannan, who is representing the state, said he also needed time to scrutinise the case documents.
On November 24, 2012, at least 112 workers, mostly women, were killed and scores of others wounded in the country’s worst industrial fire at Tazreen Fashions.
After the deadly incident, two cases were filed; one was filed by the police with Ashulia police station, accusing 15 staff members for murder by negligence, the second case was filed against the company's MD and 30 others with Dhaka Chief Judicial Magistrate Court by the brother of a missing victim.
On December 22, 2013, CID Inspector AKM Mohsinuzzaman Khan, also investigation officer of the case, submitted homicide charges with the court against the 13 accused persons, including Tazreen Fashions Managing Director Delwar Hossain.
On June 16 this year, the court took the charge sheet into cognizance and issued arrest warrants against four fugitive accused men.
