RAB arrests five in the capital

Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested five people in connection with illegal medicine business, fake bank notes and drug abuse yesterday.

The arrestees were Moin Uddin, managing director of Dream Together Pvt Limited, Md Nur-e-Alam, 32, Ratan, 26, Babul Fakir, 28, and Sumon Badya, 25.

Among them, Nur-e-Alam and Ratan, both from Comilla, were accused of running a drug business while Babul Fakir and Sumon Baidya from Gopalganj were arrested for being allegedly involved in making fake notes.

A team led by RAB-2 Deputy Commanding Officer Major Salah Uddin Ahmad busted the office of Dream Together Pvt Limited in Banani, where they found a huge deposit of various medicines worth Tk8 lakh.

Director of the company Moin Uddin confessed the company had no license, and the medicines were stored without any permission from the concerned authorities.

Mohammad Anisur Rahman, RAB executive magistrate and officials from The Directorate General of Drug Administration (DGDA) were present at that time.

RAB also found the medicines to be of low quality and fined the company Tk2 lakh or 3-months jail for failing to pay the fine.

In the meantime, two separate drives at Mohammadpur area led to the arrest of four men.

RAB-2 arrested Babul and Sumon from the Asad Gate area with fake notes worth Tk6,000 and 26 cans of beer. 

Another team picked up Nur-e-Alam and Ratan from Bizli Moholla with heroin.

They confessed their involvement in the crimes, said Senior Assistant Superintendent of Police Maruf Ahmed, operation officer of RAB-2.
