Barapukuria graft case order on Mar 10

The High Court yesterday set March 10 for delivering the order on its long-pending rule asking the Anti-Corruption Commission to explain why the Barapukuria graft case filed against BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia and others should not be quashed.

The bench of Justice M Moinul Islam Chowdhury and Justice JBM Hassan set the date after closing final hearing on the rule issued on October 16, 2008. On that day, the court also stayed proceedings of the case.

The case filed on February 26, 2008 accuses the former premier and her 10 former cabinet colleagues of taking kickbacks amounting to about Tk159 crore to ink the Barapukuria Coal Mine deal with the highest bidder instead of the lowest one.
