The 9th convocation of Rajshahi University has been held on the campus amid festivity and enthusiasm.
President Abdul Hamid, also the chancellor of the university, inaugurated the programme on Sunday.
A total of 4,777 graduates, who had their masters, MBBS, BDS, MPhil and PhD from the university from 2006 to 2010, attended the convocation.
The convocation programme started at 2:30pm with recitation from the holy books of four major religions.
Eminent Geo-scientist Professor Talat Ahmed, vice-chancellor of the Jamia Millia Islamia University at New Delhi of India, delivered convocation speech.
Addressing as chief guest president termed the graduates greater human resources of the country and urged them to contribute in building themselves as worthy citizens for the survival in this competitive world.
Referring to the government's vision of building the country as developed by 2041, the president said: "I believe the integrated efforts of all concerned people including the young graduates could be able to implement the vision successfully.”
RU Vice-Chancellor Professor Muhammad Mizanuddin gave welcoming speech while Pro-VC Professor Chowdhury Sarwar Jahan, deans of different faculties were, among others, present at the programme.
Before participating in the convocation event, President Abdul Hamid inaugurated Sheikh Fazilatunnesa Mujib Hall, a newly constructed female dormitory of the university, where some 600 female students could be resided.
