At least five people were killed in three road accidents in the capital within six hours yesterday, while another died in hospital after getting injured in a road mishap on late Thursday night.
Yesterday’s accidents occurred in Gulshan, Sher-e-Bangla Nagar and Uttara, while Thursday’s accident took place at Hazaribagh.
The Gulshan accident took place around 6am in front of Tripti restaurant at Shahjadpur area.
Yadul, 16, who was injured in the accident, said a bus driver lost control of his bus and crashed into two rickshaws and then hit a bicycle passing by.
The crash killed a rickshaw puller named Md Liton instantly, while another rickshaw puller Md Billal Hossain, 30, and the bicycle rider, Taher Uddin, 65, was severely injured.
Billal, Taher and Yadul were taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital, where the former two died later.
The bus driver fled the scene, but police seized the bus, of Suprobhat Paribahan, and is investigating the incident, said Rafiqul Islam, OC at Gulshan police station.
At Sher-e-Bangla Nagar, vegetable trader Md Milon Hossain, 25, was hit by a covered van while crossing the road in front of Gonobhaban around 12:30am, said Nayan Miah, sub-inspector at Sher-e-Bangla police station. Passers-by found him dead, and police later recovered the body.
In Uttara, police recovered the body of an unidentified man from Sector 4 around 5:45am, said Saiful Islam, sub-inspector at Uttara (East) police station. The victim was hit by an unknown vehicle.
Meanwhile, a man named Zakir Hossain, 25, hit by an auto-rickshaw at Hazaribagh around 11:30pm on Thursday, died around 11:30am yesterday at the DMCH. His family members told police that he had left home join Biswa Ijtema at Tongi.
