A youth died after being hit by a motorbike while taking selfie on Mayor Hanif Flyover in the city’s Jatrabari area on Friday night.
The deceased was identified as M Anwar Hossain, 22, a resident of Dakkhinkhan.
His friend Mehedi Hasan said four of them on two motorbikes went to the flyover for a pleasure ride.
After parking the bikes on a corner of the flyover at the Dholaipar portion, they began to take photos with their mobile cameras. Suddenly another speedy motorbike plying almost at the corner of the flyover hit Anwar leaving him critically injured.
They rushed Anwar to the Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) where the duty doctor declared him dead around 9:15pm.
Meanwhile, the motorbike that killed Anwar also faced accident. Two riders – Rubel and Shamim – of the bike were injured on the flyover, few yards off the spot.
They were also taken to the DMCH, where Anwar’s friends identified them and informed the police who immediately arrested the duo, confirmed DMCH police camp in-charge inspector Mozammel Haque.
