Six killed in road accidents

At least six people were killed in road accidents in Noakhali, Meherpur, Faridpur and Rangpur districts yesterday.

Our Noakhali correspondent reports: A local Jubo League leader was killed on the Noakhali-Feni Road in Teker Bajar area under Senbag upazila.

The victim was identified as Md Humayun Kabir of Mohammadpur village and also the president of Mohammadpur Union Jubo league.

Md Mominul Islam, officer-in-charge of Senbag police station, quoting the locals said around 10.45pm, Humayun Kabir was coming from Feni by a motorbike. When he reached Teker Bajar, a tractor hit him from opposite direction leaving him critically injured. Locals rushed him to a local hospital where he died.

In Rangpur, two people were killed and 10 others injured in a head-on collision between a bus and a truck on the Rangpur-Borra Highway in Kelamu Bridge area of Pirganj upazila. The deceased could not be identified immediately.

Police said the accident took place when the Dinajpur bound bus from Rangpur collided with the truck from the opposite direction around 5:30am on the highway, leaving the duo dead on the spot and ten others injured.

Faridpur correspondent said, two motorcyclists were killed and 10 others injured in a road accident on the Dhaka-Khulna Highway in Bahirdia.

The deceased were identified as Moshiur, 20, and Jony, 24, a resident of Khabaspur area of the town.

Quoting witnesses, police said the accident took place on the highway in the afternoon when a bus from the opposite direction crashed into the motorcycle carrying them, leaving the duo dead on the spot. Meherpur correspondent said, a CNG run auto rickshaw driver was killed on the Meherpur-Mujib Nagar Road when another three wheeler hit the auto rickshaw.
