Tanker afire at petrol pump in capital

A loaded oil-tanker caught fire at a petrol pump in Satrasta of the capital's Tejgaon Industrial area on Sunday evening. The cause of the fire was unknown.

The fire ensued as the oil carrying vehicle was waiting to unload, the manager of Satata petrol pump, Nazir Ahmed said.

Around 7:05pm, as soon as he noticed the fire, the driver rushed to his seat and drove the tanker to the less-risky areas of the pump.

Seven fire Fighting units from headquarters, Mohammadpur, and Kurmitola offices rushed to the spot and managed to douse the fire using foam around 8pm.

Arriving at the station, the driver and helper of the tanker carrying 9000 litre of Octane and 4500 litre of disel were waiting for its turn to unload.

The manager estimated the loss to be no less than TK15 lakh, however, no casualty was reported.

The manager admitted the pump, situated just beside the Tejgaon industrial police station, had no CC camera even though it is mandatory.
