French master filmmaker Claire Denis is on a visit to Bangladesh with invitation from online forum “Filmy-Bahas” to attend a programme.
The two-day programme will be held on December 8 and 9 at Chhayanaut Sanskriti Bhavan in Dhanmondi. Starting at 9am on both days, six films by Claire Denis are scheduled to be screened along with discourse with the master.
Palme d’Or nominee of Cannes and winner of Golden Leopard’ in Locarno, Claire Denis is the second Master invited to “Tareque Masud Master’s Class” to be held in December this year.
Filmamker Kamar Ahmad Simon will direct the main discourse with Claire Denis.
Considered as one of the leading auteur director of contemporary French cinema, Claire Denis was born in Paris and raised in colonial French Africa.
It has been a strong influence on her films, which have dealt with themes of colonialism and post-colonialism in Africa.
Jointly organised by Embassy of France, Bangladesh and Beginning Production, Institut Francais, UniFrance Films and American International University (AIUB) are also supporting the programme.
Interested participants are requested to register themselves on facebook.com/Filmy.Bahas by November 22. Only selected participants will be able to attend due to limited number of seats.
The objective is to bring parallel narrative of world cinema to the young film enthusiasts of Bangladesh.
Kamar Ahmad Simon shared in his reaction, “When the entire world is thriving with alternative school of thoughts, when parallel narrative is merging with the mainstream more and more, then we are judging a creative medium like cinema with profit only. This notion won’t last much longer; hence it is essential to understand others’ language if you want to establish your own in this globalised era.”
