Hasina: Khaleda losing ground by threatening government

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has said BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia is not aware that she is losing ground by making frequent threats of ousting the government.

“We have come to know that Khaleda Zia has been issuing threats very frequently. But, I would ask her if she is aware that she is losing ground by making such threats,” Hasina, the president of the ruling Awami League, said while addressing her party’s working committee meeting at the Ganabhaban yesterday.

She also said the BNP chief was never comfortable with the people of the country living in a good, peaceful condition.

Warning that destructive activities in the name of movements will not be tolerated, the premier said: “Anyone harming the people will not be spared.”

Replying to Khaleda’s remark that the economic condition of the people was worsening, the PM said: “Look at yourself, from where do you get these surprisingly valuable clothes and ornaments?”

Hasina also said Khaleda Zia had been holding public rallies and declaring new programmes to avoid appearing before the court.

She noted that Bangladesh made a new record in world history by being elected for the top posts of two global organisations - Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) and Commonwealth Parliamentary Association (CPA).

On Khaleda’s claim that the government has no global recognition, LGRD Minister and AL General Secretary Syed Ashraful Islam said the BNP chief made such comments based on her own political ignorance.
