AL revokes Latif's membership

Update : 12 Oct 2014, 03:44 PM

The ruling Awami League has removed Abdul Latif Siddique from the party's Presidium for "hurting religious sentiment and violating the party's constitution."

The decision was made during the Central Working Committee meeting of the party at Ganabhaban on Sunday evening, General Secretary Syed Ashraful Islam told reporters.

The party also suspended his primary membership. It also served a show cause notice asking him to explain why he should not be expelled from the party. He was given seven days to respond to the notice.

Earlier in the day, he was removed from the post of post, telecommunications and IT minister.

A gazette notification regarding the removal was issued on Sunday.

President Md Abdul Hamid terminated him following the advice of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

During a programme in the USA on September 28, Latif Siddique made some comments on Hajj, Ijtema and Hasina's son Sajeeb Wazed Joy.
