Anti Corruption Commission (ACC) submitted charge sheet against Sohel Rana among 18 including his parents on Wednesday afternoon.

The charge sheet was submitted in the case for constructing Rana Plaza building in violating the approved design.

ACC Deputy Director and also the investing officer of the case, Mofidul Haq submitted the charge sheet to the Chief judicial magistrate court of Dhaka on Wednesday afternoon.

Earlier, the ACC did not include the name of Sohel Rana with the case as the building was owned by his father and the name of Sohel Rana was not found in any of the documented evidences.

However, the authority included his name on Tuesday as they found his involvement in the case.

On June 15, the Anti-Corruption Commission has filed a case against 17 people including parents of Sohel Rana, the owner of the building that collapsed last year, on April 24, killing more than 1000 people.

The accused in the case include, Savar municipality mayor Refayet Ullah, Rana’s father Abdul Khalek and mother Morjina Begum, the architect of the building and associate professor of the architecture discipline department of Khulna University ATM Masud Reza, Savar municipality ward 7 councilor Mohammad Ali Khan, and three garment unit owners – Phantom Apparels Ltd Chairman Mohammad Aminul Islam, New Wave Bottom Limited Managing Director Bazlus Samad and Ether Tex Limited Chairman Azizur Rahman.

According to the inquiry report, the local Savar municipality initially approved the building for a six-storied building and then gave the approval for a 10-storied building, though the municipality has no authority to approve buildings over six-storey.

The building that housed at least five garment factories collapsed and killed at least 1138 people and over a thousand people survived with injuries and many others still remain missing.
