Authorities of a ready-made garment factory in Gazipur have declared the factory closed for Wednesday as the workers remained abstained from work since morning.
Workers of Hooplon Apparels also staged demonstration demanding production incentive bonus, lunch allowance and supply of fresh water.
The factory authorities were later forced to declare a holiday to calm the situation.
Gazipur Industrial Police Assistant Police Super (ASP) S A Khalek said: “Some 3,000 workers of the factory went on work abstention to meet their demands since 9am. At one point, the workers started demonstrating outside of the factory.”
Upon receiving information, police rushed to the spot and brought the situation under control.
Additional police have been deployed in the area to avoid further unwanted situation, said the factory authorities.
