Bangladesh and India are still in discussion over the possible visit of Indian External Affairs Minister SushmaSwaraj to Dhaka.
“Both the foreign ministries are discussing the issue. We will inform you when the date is fixed,” State Minister for Foreign Affairs ShahriarAlam said at a press conference yesterday.
A foreign ministry official said both the sides agreed on the visit, possibly this month, and they were working on the date.
Meanwhile, Indian High Commissioner to Dhaka, Pankaj Saran said they were waiting for an official announcement from New Delhi.
The Indian envoy yesterday had over-an-hour-long meeting with Foreign Secretary Md Shahidul Haq, who came back from China on Wednesday after a five-day visit.
“When she [SushmaSwaraj] will come and what will then happen, it is still under discussion,” Pankaj told the Dhaka Tribune.
Pankaj said he and the foreign secretary had discussed the possibility of high level visit.
When the Indian envoy was asked about the visit of the Indian home secretary to Dhaka, he said the date were yet to be fixed about the regular secretary-level talks.
